Up 'til about 2003, I was a Norton Anti-Virus fan. Then one day, a worm virus managed to sneak past the NAV safeguards I had in place on my home network, and got onto my server through an infected workstation and modified/destroyed our installers in storage and wrote junk over my photos and music files as well. Norton had let me down. I vowed to find a solution that worked better than simply trusting their automated anti-virus patching system to keep me current and protected.

From worm viruses in Email, to key logging Trojans in the kids "FREE" "CUTE" game, threats were seemingly everywhere. My children also spurred me on to find a solution by coming to me about once every few weeks with PC problems like slowness caused by spyware and adware infections, as well as an occasional virus. After extensive research, I developed the software group that we call the MPP or Malware Prevention Package.

Expertek's MPP consists of a 5-layer approach to ending malware attacks on a PC. The layers work together to protect your windows start up programs and monitor them to prevent infection before they become a problem. It is so effective that as of today we are boasting a less than 1% warranty claim on the 1 yr warranty that it comes with (when installed and configured by our technicians).

The MPP Layers:

  1. Windows Firewall - activated and set up properly, with no exceptions.
  2. Anti-Virus - Pick a good solid anti-virus program, that updates and scans regularly and automatically.
  3. Anti-Malware - Choose a reliable anti-malware program that monitors start ups and scans as well.
  4. Alternative Web Browser - Internet Explorer is a wide open platform and is a major target for most virus and spyware/malware writers. We suggest only using IE when you are on a mainstream site that REQUIRES IE and using anything else (for example: Netscape, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and there are many other free web browsers) when 'off-roading', or surfing sites that are not considered mainstream, like Facebook.com and MySpace.com.
  5. Blocker - Blockers use a list of known malware sites with the idea that if you cannot get to their site, they cannot put their junk on your computer. We build in two with our malware prevention package, one in windows itself, to protect the entire system, and one which updates automatically, installed into the browser as additional protection.

These 5 layers and some usage guidelines, along with American support and Free warranty removal comprise the MPP. The warranty offered (Again, only when installed in our shop) works this way: Any subsequent infection that is non-removable by the MPP itself can be brought into the shop and removed Free of charge, provided that you have kept the system off 'Sin sites' - specifically, porn, gambling, cheat or crack code sites, and file sharing software is not present on the system. If the system in question has been used in actively surfing these type of sites, over-exposing your PC to risks, and sooner or later you will run into something that will sneak past whatever protection you have, as the sites that host these activities are typically running over with junk they would like to have you download and install. If there are signs of surfing this material (or a lack of surfing history), there is a 1/2 price charge for removal service, followed by some education as to how to avoid this problem in the future.

NOTE: Certain Google results are blocked automatically by our Blocking software. The blocked Google results are recognizable by their shaded background and appearance at the top of their search results page and are shown and blocked because they are sponsored links, sometimes trustworthy, and sometimes not, but the fact is that these sponsored links use the 'ad-clicks' network which is a cookie-based tracking effort. For this reason, they remain blocked for our customers. If you need this feature turned off, let us know, and we will change that for you at no charge.

In-shop Renewals are half-price, with only a few files to update, and renewals have been climbing steadily.

If you would like the protection afforded by the MPP, simply bring your system in, and we'll install and configure it for you, and keep in mind that we offer discounts when bundled with other work.

If you aren't in the area, and would like to try it, we will soon be offering** it at a variety of rates, depending on how much of the work you would like to do yourself, and how much of a warranty you would like.

  • FREE: simply read and follow the steps outlined above, make some selections as to the software you would like to use, install and support it yourself!
  • $30: Download our (SOON TO BE AVAILABLE) installation script, which pulls the software fresh from the web, and walks you through the setup and configuration of the various software that we normally use.
  • $60: You get the installation script AND all related files, plus get a 1 yr call-in support warranty.
  • $75: You'll get the install script, all related files, 1 yr of call-in support AND 1 remote removal incident with pricing for subsequent removals @ $30/each.

** CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR WALK-IN CUSTOMERS ONLY. EMAIL FOR A BETA TEST WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.
